Church Vitality

Our Church Vitality Vision:
500 Churches and 500 Fresh Expressions of Church by 2025

Toward making this vision become reality, the Florida Conference’s strategy links with the following:

• The 500 churches recover the priority and practice of making new disciples.
• The 500 Fresh Expressions are led by laity, bi-vocational pastors and full-time clergy appointed to existing churches.
• The 500 churches tracks with our anticipated clergy supply.
• We use the same curriculum for Fresh Expressions, participants in the Nehemiah Project and the Young Adult Missional Movement.
• We avoid the language of closing churches and perfect the language of transition to communities of disciples.
• We invest in people, rather than buildings.
• We develop a state of the art program in Spiritual Formation (individual mentoring), Guidance (shepherding of small groups) and Leadership (oversight).

Adam Hamilton’s 2015 Presentations on Church Vitality and Growth

Rev. Adam Hamilton, the leader of the largest United Methodist church in the nation, is on a mission. His goal is to share his expertise with every conference in the denomination to help churches restore their vitality. He shared his message of church vitality with the Florida Annual Conference in 2015.

Hamilton listed three differentiating factors between churches that are vital and those that are not: effective leadership, meaningful worship and preaching and missional outreach to the community.
