Commission on Archives and History

Let this be recorded for a generation yet to come, so that a people yet
unborn may praise the Lord.
Psalm 102:18

The Florida Conference Commission on Archives and History is an exciting and rich opportunity to serve the church in a vital way.  Each district has a commission member to serve and help preserve local church histories and push forward the work of the Heritage Center. Currently, we are seeking a district commission member from the following districts: the Northwest, the Gulf Central, and the East Central.  Here is the job description for commission members:  If you or someone you know in your local church is interested in serving, please email Anita Campbell at anita.campbell2468@att.net or Judi New at judith.m.new@gmail.com

The commission also encourages local congregations to preserve their historical materials and offers guidance in doing so.  See For Local Church Historians.

The Commission on Archives and History promotes and cares for the historical interests of the United Methodist Church in the Florida Conference.

It operates the Ruth K. and Charles T. Thrift, Jr., Florida United Methodist Heritage Center, which houses the archives of the conference—the historical records and materials relating to the history of the Florida Conference and its antecedents.  These materials are preserved and made available for public and scholarly use.  See Heritage Center.

Check out our Facebook page located at  https://www.facebook.com/Florida-United-Methodist-Heritage-Center-109053513778866/ for 175th Anniversary  news and local church history updates.  Please be sure to "Like" us too!

The commission also encourages local congregations to preserve their historical materials and offers guidance in doing so.  See For Local Church Historians.

Each year the commission recognizes churches and clergy celebrating significant anniversaries. See Anniversary Churches and Anniversary Clergy for current lists.

Members of the Commission are available to answer questions from churches and individuals.  See Commission Members.
